Bacon contributor Mary Jo Shankle recently wrote a beautiful post on Welty’s Delta Wedding and wanted to share an unusual opportunity.  From Mary Jo:

A note to Welty fans in the middle Tennessee area…the downtown branch of the Nashville Public Library is featuring an exhibition of 36 of her photographs taken in the 1930s and ’40s.  Welty was a prolific photographer and her work includes portraits, landscapes, and scenesTomato-Packers-Recess-Eudora-Welty-3.jpg__600x0_q85_upscale from everyday life.  A book of her photographs entitled One Time, One Place was published in 1971, of which she wrote “This book is offered, I should explain, not as a social document but as a family album – which is something both less and more, but unadorned.”  Click here to learn more.

The Nashville exhibition runs through November 9th and is made possible through support from the Eudora Welty Foundation.  The non-profit, volunteer-run Foundation helps fund a Welty scholar, celebrates the arts, develops teaching resources, assists in the preservation of the Welty home and garden, and hosts seminars, competitions, and festivals for young writers, established authors, and the public.

The Nashville Public Library is open Monday-Friday 9-6, Saturday 9-5, and Sunday 2-5, and is located at 615 Church Street, Nashville, Tennessee 37219.  For more information, call (615)862-5800 or click here.  See this article in the Tennessean for more information about the exhibit.
