Have lgcover.4917529you ever noticed that the more you have to do, the more you get done?  It is simple and brilliant: just keep adding things to your calendar and your to-do list.  Somehow they all get done.  Until of course you find yourself huddled in a corner in the fetal position.

If  you’re going to add anything to your calendar today or tomorrow, please consider coming out to hear Perry Wallace speak at the downtown public library or at Vanderbilt.  Perry Wallace, you may recall, was the first black basketball player not only at Vanderbilt but also in the entire SEC in the 1960s.  A bright young man – valedictorian of his class at Nashville’s Pearl High School – and a gentle soul, his story is only now being told in a way that feels rich and right.  Andrew Maraniss’s new biography, Strong Inside: Perry Wallace and the Collision of Race and Sports in the South is garnering tremendous attention nationally following its release a couple of weeks ago.

Here are your opportunities to hear Perry speak:

· Wednesday, Dec. 3 … McNeely Pigott & Fox Speaker Series event at the Nashville Public Library (main downtown branch) … 5 pm reception, 6 pm remarks, books for sale … Perry and Andrew will answer questions from radio personality Genna Holmes.  Free/open to public.  If you’d like to come to this, please rsvp to bookevent@mpf.com.

· Thursday, Dec. 4 … Vanderbilt University Library … 2 pm … free/open to public … books for sale … Perry and Andrew will answer questions from VU alum and author Frye Gaillard.  If you plan to go to this one, please rsvp to Nancy Dwyer at nancy.dwyer@vanderbilt.edu.

I’ll be at the event on Thursday and hope to see you there!
