Most of what you need to know about love can be learned from Sheila E’s “The Glamorous Life.”  You can do a line of cocaine or click here for a serious high.  Be careful, you’ll want to watch every single performance of “The Glamorous Life” uploaded to YouTube.  (Do it!!)

She just nails it at the end, after all the gushing about diamonds and furs:  “She thought: real love is real scary/Money only pays the rent/Love is forever that’s all your life/Love is heaven sent, it’s glamorous.”

StyleBlueprint was kind enough to run my monster Spring Reading post this week, and one of the featured books just slayed me on The Glamorous Life, and love:  The Swans of Fifth Avenue, by Melanie Benjamin.

Benjamin bases her novel on the real-life friendship of Truman Capote and his “swans,” a group of glittering New York City socialites during the 1950’s.  Talk about diamonds and furs!  But Capote is their brightest, shiniest bauble.  He becomes especially close to Babe Paley, the most elegant (yet loneliest) Swan of all, and what grows between them is undoubtedly love, if never consummated.  In 1975, he makes a gross miscalculation and publishes a piece of “fiction” in Esquire that reveals many of the Swans’ secrets.  The devastation that follows for Capote, Babe, and the others is the stuff of legend and now this riveting novel.  It captures the elegance of a bygone era, the deepest of friendships – and the cruelest of betrayals.

Please stop in at Styleblueprint.com for my list of Spring Reading recommendations!  Every single book is a stunner.   Read the fine print on the one with the pink cover.
