Everyone I know is working on their fall calendars right now.   Today’s post features some hot happenings for yours, Nashville readers!

1.  Salon@615 has an incredible lineup of authors speaking this fall, many of them at Nashville’s Downtown Public Library but several of them off-site at larger venues.

Here are some I’m most excited about:  Jacqueline Woodson (September 7)…  Ann Patchett (September 12)… Rick Riordan (October 6).  You’ll for sure need to get tickets in advance – like right now.

2.  Nashville Ballet presents Cinderella, September 16-18, 2016.

Cinders-HR-1782+SELECTThis is a no-brainer for families with young kids: beautiful, magical, fairy tale splendor.  But Paul Vasterling, artistic director and CEO, will never give you only that.  His sparkling version of Cinderella adds a little more humor (guys playing stepsisters) and a little more determination on the part of the heroine.  What about a downtown outing for a group of younger teens, with you dropping off and picking up?  Add on dinner and it would be a sweet date opportunity for older teens.

3.  The Nashville Symphony offers the magnificence of a full orchestra in the utter gorgeousness that is the Schermerhorn.  Here’s the full concert calendar for 2016-2017.  One of the early performances:  Mahler’s Second, Thursday, September 22 through Saturday, September 24.  It “offers a resounding testament to the endurance of the human spirit, with some of the composer’s most dramatic and transcendently beautiful music.”

4.  I’m crazy about the ALIAS Chamber Ensemble, one of the coolest – and hottest – classical music groups anywhere.

ALIAS presents a concert on Thursday, October 13, 7:30 p.m. at the Blair School of Music, opening its 15th season with its trademark assortment of eclectic classical offerings.  The program features salon music by 20th-century French composer Jacques Ibert for harp, violin and cello, and three pieces from modern composers steeped in American musical traditions.

5.   The Southern Festival of Books at War Memorial Plaza October 14-16 is one of the biggest, baddest book festivals in the country.  There are lots of opportunities to hear authors speak and mix and mingle with them.  Alternatively, just head down with your kids or your dog and browse around, stopping at the various book tents, grabbing something to eat at a food truck.  Click here for more information, including the list of authors, and a bit later you can find the schedule of panel discussions.SFB_20166.  The Bacon and Beer Classic will be held at Nissan Stadium on Saturday, November 5th.  “The aesthetics of being in a professional stadium help highlight what is truly a memorable culinary experience for attendees,” says Jesse Lawrence in Forbes.  I’m not sure if he said that with a straight face but I kind of love it.
