Now I am hungrily eager to read this book this month.

I loved “Putting on the Ritz” and “My Blue Heaven,” the comic novels by Joe Keenan, who created “Frasier.” I met him once, when he was doing a signing at the now defunct gay bookstore in DC, Lambda Rising. I told him he was so talented that, though I loved his comic novels and their gay characters, he should really write something for a wider audience if possible, since he’d obviously be so successful. His eyes twinkled but he said nothing else. A few years (months?) later, “Frasier” was on the air.

What is said here of Julia Johnson’s novel reminds me a little of the Keenan books.

On the strength of this review and the fizzy interview, I downloaded Be Frank with Me from Audible, and I am in love. This is a wonderful book to listen to — the narration is great, and the reader’s voice for Frank is delightful. Doesn’t hurt that there’s a mysterious character named Zander 🙂

Since she came up with the book idea in the space of walking one block, I wondered if the title was part of that, or if the editors did that job for her. I’m asking because I know how hard it is to find a good title!
