Dear Readers, Farewell for the next few weeks!  I’ll be traveling in China with my parents, hoping to avoid death by airplane or viral illness (two of many concerns of The Fearful Traveler).  If I return, Bacon will resume in early October heading into Nashville’s wonderful Southern Festival of Books!

In the meanwhile, you won’t want to miss the release of Ann Patchett’s new novel Commonwealth on Tuesday, September 13th!  It’s crazy good – my favorite since Bel Canto.  Here’s a link to my review at Chapter 16.  You can pre-order a copy at Parnassus and Ann will sign and personalize it, which is quite exceptional.  The deadline to pre-order is Monday, September 12th, at 12 noon Central Standard Time.  Click here for more info.

Just today, my friend Bryant Tirrill told me I must get started on Colson Whitehead’s The Underground Railroad.  Kate Satz and I are thinking about picking up Adam Haslett’s Imagine Me Gone because of his amazing answers to the authors’ questionnaire for the Southern Festival of Books/Authors in the Round dinner.  Neil Krugman was telling me about the most recent P.G. Wodehouse, and Roger Moore (The Good Professor) has been mixing up his more scholarly reading with Alexander McCall Smith’s Portuguese Irregular Verbs series.  I’ll miss the frequent recommendations from friends while away!  Are you reading anything terrific?  Please let me know by email or in the comments below!  I’ve got a few things lined up for the plane – but I’m always game for a few more.  xo, ~Jennifer
