i don’t have children, but I’ll share this to relate…when I have a young horse that I am bringing along, I use some of the same techniques Native Americans use…for instance if I’m walking up to my loose horse in a field and he’s walking away from me, I stare at the tip of his shoulder. Without fail, he will hold still. If I stare into his eye, he will fly away from me. It comes down to the predator v. Prey and how he perceives me. No verbals needed.
