M&I have eaten at Antoine’s and Howard Johnsons –nearly the two ends of the spectrum. Speaking of well done, as a native of Chicago, I am disappointed that [Midwestern] steak restaurants were not noted, as you mentioned. Have you read Caleb Carr’s historic detective book, The Alienist? Much is written about Delmonico’s–nearly another character in the book and a favorite of Teddy Roosevelt when he was police commissioner there.
