Gus and I recently watched the Netflix(?) series on Ted Bundy. It was a 4 or 6 part examination of who he was, what he did, how he was captured, and how he talked about what he did. It was fascinating, confusing, sad, and terrible - to be confronted with someone whose compulsion was so strong. Even though there were no answers at the end of the show - and really not much in the way of hope or redemption, it felt okay to have spent my time on this. Somehow, though - I need more than that in a book. I look for more than just a cataloguing of the world’s ills. I’ve been thinking about this and wondering about it. Xoxo

"I don't think a good book should leave you feeling this way." I agree, Jennifer. Thank you for offering such an honest review. I think that we see a lot of this in books, movies, and tv series these days that focus on depravity and hopelessness simply as a showcase for "realism" or the authentic nature of people and the world in which we live. But I love how you say "what matters most is that we -- the readers-- want to choose life, with all its sorrows but also all its joys and beauties." Amen.

It makes sense to me that there might be a different generational take!! I would love to know what your friends’ kids said about Cat Person!! Each one of these stories was fascinating and disturbing in its way. Reading each one alone, I think, would feel very different from reading them all at once, as I did. It is cool that a short story went viral. Will that ever happen again in our lifetimes? Thank you for all, Sara - xoxo

Interesting... I read Cat Person, and found it disturbing but fascinating. A few women in my book club gave it to their college age kids to read, and they had a very different take on the story. Not surprisingly, it speaks to different generations differently. Most interesting to me was that it was a short story that went viral -- when was the last time that happened?

Thank you so much, dear Carrington!! It did help me feel better to write about it and get my feelings out. Perhaps some reader will tell me what I’ve missed? I hope you have a wonderful Sunday ahead... xoxo
