I read it and liked it and think it tells an important story. I don’t think Oprah rescinded it as her pick, though?? I think she’s going to be doing a televised discussion with Cummins about the controversy which should be interesting.

You expressed my sentiments exactly. The book does put faces on things we have read and heard so much about, the struggles south of the border to escape violence. I have traveled extensively in Mexico and Central America and I have an affinity for peoples in those countries. The book compels us to have compassion for individuals, even if they are fictional. Maybe all the flutter will induce more people to want to give the book a read.
