My mother was much like your Nanny. She would beckon us all to come visit her in her bedroom where she would be reading or doing a crossword puzzle. She would even meet my friends in the comfort of her bed. She did not care how crazy it seemed and would often entertain her best friends at Pawleys and boast about how they laughed and stayed in bed most of the time never getting out of their nightgowns.. And in full disclosure, I am very much like my Mama. I have not found it hard at all to stay in and get lost in a book. Anyone who knows me knows I treasure naps, reading and escaping this world when my soul needs a much needed rest. I have always been told I live in my own little world. I ltake these observations as a compliment regardless of their intention. There's a movie called True Stories and it features The Talking Heads with David Byrne as the lead, and it is filled with stories of true southern characters. There is even a story about a woman that never gets out of bed and I remember taking great comfort in knowing there were others out there just like my mom and me. Thank you for the beautiful share.

It's funny how much I have been thinking about my grandmothers as well - one of whom passed away 4 years ago at 102. And I wondered ( promise) if my dear friend Pam Benton knew your Nanny the minute I read the word " Kosciusko"...

Peace in its purest form - yes what a lovely turn of phrase - and captures so beautifully what she felt. Xoxo

Keith, you write beautifully. I so enjoyed reading this. I especially loved ”watching her laugh and tell stories, feels like peace in its purest form.” I can relate so well to that line with my grandmother.
