Hi, Sally! I'm so happy to hear that! It's wonderful how the right book can open those sorts of conversations - the ones where people bring generous hearts. xo

We hosted a Nashville Reads conversation at FiftyForward Knowles yesterday. A diverse and articulate audience made it one of the very best discussions on race I've been involved in. The Color of Water was an excellent choice this year!

I have been thinking about reading Between The World and Me and need to go ahead and do it. Thank you so much for recommending it and for your kind comment, Todd! xo

Thanks, Jennifer, for a wonderful review on James McBride's book, one already on my list upon the recommendation of a friend! Race is such a powerful and complex matter in American life, and I might add Ta-Nehisi Coates' Between The World and Me to this list. Coates writes a memoir framed as a letter to his son. It is deeply troubling to read, but also revelatory for someone who has grown up in a very different world. Ignorance is not bliss when it comes to race.
