Found on the blacktop this week: beauty, chaos, relationship.
Togetherness
and pulling apart,
coziness,
grief, brokenness, comfort,
joyful gatherings,
estrangement, dancing. Seeking.
The wind blows and it all changes.
What did you see on your blacktop?
On mine – it looked a lot like love.

From Listening to Your Life: Daily Meditations with Frederick Buechner
November 15
The love for equals is a human thing – of friend for friend, brother for brother. It is to love what is loving and lovely. The world smiles.
The love for the less fortunate is a beautiful thing – the love for those who suffer, for those who are poor, the sick, the failures, the unlovely. This is compassion, and it touches the heart of the world.
The love for the more fortunate is a rare thing – to love those who succeed where we fail, to rejoice without envy with those who rejoice, the love of the poor for the rich, of the black man for the white man. The world is always bewildered by its saints.
And then there is the love for the enemy – love for the one who does not love you but mocks, threatens, and inflicts pain. The tortured’s love for the torturer. This is God’s love. It conquers the world.
Lovely!
Thank you for being in touch, Jeanne! Xoxo
It’s always there, isn’t it?
The wind blows where it will… xoxo
Love is sometimes easy, sometimes very difficult.
Truer words never spoken… xoxo
Great reminder to keep on loving in all directions xo
That is so beautifully said, Carolyn – “loving in all directions.” Thank you! Xoxo
So lovely…….I’ve missed you and your adventures!
Anne, I hope you are doing well! I am thinking of you! Xoxo
Wonderful pictures and imaginative affirmations. Buechner’s meditation was wonderful. A bit of synchronicity: Our former Minister of Christian Ed (and Youth and Children!), who is now the pastor of a fortunate church in Huntsville AL said that one of her two favorite books was “Listening to Your Life”. I have bought it and will start using it January 1. I have read several of his books and really look forward to this one. Peace, LaMon
I read from “Listening to Your Life” almost every single morning and have for 3 years. It is my absolute favorite. I hope you will love it as much as I do, LaMon! Xoxo
